Paula Wyatt, Staff Sonographer
At the time I applied for a position at Johns Hopkins, I had heard that the reputation of the hospital was excellent and I wanted to improve my skills as a sonographer. I knew the environment at Hopkins would challenge me and give me the opportunity to be exposed to pathology I probably would not see anywhere else in the world.
What has kept me at Hopkins is finding that each day I learn. Each day I see cases I probably would not see anywhere else. It's one thing to read about studies that other hospitals are developing or presenting at seminars, but it is exciting to have the opportunitiy to perform and be critiqued on these examinations by the sonologists and researchers who developed them. I also feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work with technologists who are among the best in the world. Each technologist is encouraged to pursue continual education and progress in their field. Hopkins assists with this, by not only providing continued medical education in the form of a yearly ultrasound seminar, but in an allowance for education as well. As this is a teaching hospital, the new influx of ideas and techniques only enhances the already rich learning environment. [Return to Top]

Steve Herman, Senior Sonographer
As a Hopkins staff sonographer for the last 12 years, I've had to answer the same question time and time again, "Why are you still here?". It would probably take another 12 years to answer that question.
I've learned so much since I've been here and the opportunities are endless. I feel honored to be on the cutting edge of technology and medicine. It's an incredible feeling to be surrounded by medical professionals who are at the top of their field. But it doesn't stop there. Hopkins continues to offer many new and exciting challenges. The radiologists and physicians create a stimulating environment by encouraging education both in the workplace and by attending seminars. Besides performing routine exams, we scan a wide variety of Doppler studies, organ transplants, biopsy, inter-operative and research studies. Best of all, these exams are performed on state of the art equipment. The Hopkins sonographers are a great team and I am proud to be part of it! [Return to Top]
